Rhizomatiks are exhibiting the artwork recursive at Kyoto University from October 6, 2025 to January 2026.

October 06, 2025

Rhizomatiks presents the AI project recursive, which allows viewers to simultaneously experience “an AI learning about itself” and “the recursive process of its evolving learning,” as the inaugural exhibition at Kyoto University’s new art space.
Originally unveiled in 2024 at OMOTESANDO CROSSING PARK in Tokyo, recursive will be exhibited once again at Kyoto University.
The work expands upon Rhizomatiks’ original AI model, the Beyond Perception Model, first introduced in their solo exhibition “Rhizomatiks Beyond Perception” at KOTARO NUKAGA (Tennoz) in 2024.
This project explores the theme of “recursive self-learning and the evolution of creativity” through an AI trained exclusively on approximately 170,000 images created by Rhizomatiks.
