This experimental collaboration with Björk explored new expressive possibilities at the intersection of music and video imagery, and made history as the world’s first 360-degree virtual reality performance live-streamed on YouTube.
The project entailed a live performance of the track “Quicksand,” filmed under the Geo-Cosmos exhibit at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) with omnidirectional cameras and streamed with extensive AR/VR imagery added in real-time.
The result was a uniquely ephemeral melding of music and technology that marked a dramatic new chapter in audiences’ experience of live-streaming.
Footage from the “Making of Björk Digital” livestream was subsequently edited to create the official “Quicksand VR” music video.
