Mass games, which create large-scale performances through the coordination of many participants, are often used in stadium shows, but it has been rare for technology to be incorporated into these performances.
This performance was created for the ‘Makomanai Fireworks Festival,’ held on July 19, 2015, at Sekisui Stadium in Hokkaido, where technology was integrated into a mass game performance. This event is known for its extravagant and innovative productions each year, and this time, Daito Manabe was invited to direct the opening fireworks. Together with MIKIKO, who handled the choreography, and Motoi Ishibashi, responsible for hardware, they realized a performance that combined wirelessly controlled full-color LED light sticks, fireworks, and dancers. On stage, 64 dancers performed while holding wirelessly controlled LED devices in both hands, and in the latter half of the performance, handheld fireworks were also incorporated into the dance.
